The Portrait

The portrait of Henryka Stanecka née Prus (prisoner number 11458) was made by Maja Berezowska, a former prisoner of Ravensbrück Concentration Camp (number 11197), during their imprisonment in 1944. The original portrait is owned by Mr. Marek Stanecki, Henryka’s son, who kindly allowed me to post it on my website.
In English translation, the inscription on the portrait reads: ‘Our angelic Heniusia – Maja Rv.44.’ The picture depicts Henryka as a nurse in the camp rivier (the camp hospital), where she worked as a prisoner from December 1943. After the war, Mrs. Stanecka graduated from medical school, and outside of medical practice, she took care of many camp friends. She was active in the Association of Former Prisoners of KL Ravensbrück in Łódź. After her death, many souvernirs, her son Marek donated to the museum of Ravensbrück KL.
