The Letter of May 21, 1944

Dear! We are crazy with joy: yesterday, on May 20, we received ten notifications (two of us) about arriving packages from Mission Catholique Suisse – Friborg (Suisse). They notified us that they would be sending us parcels “de la part de Saintete le Pape Pie XII” and asked for confirmation of receipt. Indeed, the camp authorities will not allow us to do so, so when we write to you that we have received parcels from “Papcio,” confirm the receipt. On May 19, the first parcels from Geneva arrived – two of us, Dziba and Pela. (They send confirmation forms for these packages so that we can confirm). The second time I got parcels from Lisbon (from Aki), sardines from Florian Piskorski, Avenue Pedro Alvares Cabral 54, 3 E, Lisboa. Since he always asks for a confirmation of receipt, write to him that we receive the packages and thank you very much for them. (Previously, Dziuba also received these parcels).

Helena P. is already in the convalescent block – she is starting to walk. On April 29, Marja Cabaj (who underwent experimental surgery) received a card from Oflag VIIa from Mr. Zacharczuk with the notification that she, Dzido, and Stanisław Czajkowska would receive parcels from Geneva, and he asked for more names. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to give names. If it’s your initiative, do it.

So today, the paste came to Joanna in a terrible condition – the other half was unreadable – repeat the name of Hanka or Staszka as the sender on the package because we could not decipher it.
