Grażyna Chrostowska

Grażyna Chrostowska was born on 21st October 1921 in Lublin, Poland. She was a member of the underground KOP (Komenda Obrońców Polski-Organization of the Defenders of Poland) during the Nazi Germany occupation of Poland. Gestapo arrested Grażyna in Lublin on 8th May 1941 when she visited her sister in prison. Both were sent to the Ravensbrück Concentration Camp on 23rd September 1941. On 18th April 1942, the camp’s firing squad executed Grażyna Chrostowska and her sister. She wrote: “Inquietude” (Niepokój) eight hours before her death.

Several Grażyna’s poems were translated to French by Nina Iwańska and published in the book by Germaine Tillion, Ravensbrück, Neuchâtel : Éditions de la Baconnière, 1946 p. 106-109
