Letter X dated 17th October 1943[1]
We do not have much to communicate because we wait for your definite answer. We want to give you additional parts of the previous list two and ask you for a few things. Thinking that we may be a burden for you, not without some hesitation, we ask you for help, but my God, you are Dears, the only one we may count on. The issue of letters is our priority now. We realize that the amount of correspondence we have sent to you is enormous. We try to limit it to a minimum sending only the most essential and urgent letters but please understand us; there are so many of us, some of us have not received news from home for months – some letters do not reach addressees etc.
So, Dears, please forgive us; we will try not to burden you. Apropos, does it matter what return address is given? Previously you offered us envelopes with a letter inside. Is the offer still standing? Now the issue of books, we do not know what possibilities you have in the matter, but if you could get the ones we asked you previously, could you get 1—French dictionary or self-learning Berger’s handbook, 2. handbook for mathematics of lyceum level. Our sketching girls are looking for pencil No.1, which has not been available for long. That is all for now. We are afraid that our requests may alienate you; we count on your friendship and crave hope for your indulgence. We are sending you now the continuation of the list of executed Poles as well transports in which they came to Ravensbrück – the earlier and from Warsaw[2] than the previous ones and later the list is not complete.
The documentation with the list was prepared and was in order. Unfortunately, we had to hide parts of it hasty due to a search, and now it is not easy to collect it again. We will check what is missing and provide you with a complete one next week. Regarding the transport of sick prisoners, one minor correction: 1st transport of ill and disabled prisoners was sent out at the end of January and additional names: Adela Boguńska from Krakow’s transport, Pacolt and Garbecka from Warsaw’s transport. The 2nd one with the mentally ill went out in March with Maria Wiśniewska and Sabina Niemiec from Warsaw’s transport.
P.S. Please write how many letters maximum you can send weekly. Maybe you have up-to-date foreign news or German ones where the information would not be outdated and distorted. We are allowed to read only Völkisher Beobachter – deceitful!
[1] Written by Zofia Pociłowska. The date is written on the surface of the folded letter and according to the directions included in the previous letter is the sign that the letter is only for members of the clandestine group prisoners.
[2] The list includes names and dates of the transports and names of the executed (shot by firing squad) Poles and dates of the executions
